Spot the Hidden Self-Sabotage Patterns & Flip Them into Clarity + Confidence

And it's because you're running programs you didn't even choose.

Do you ever wonder…
Why do I keep sabotaging myself even when I know better?
Why do I fall back into the same emotions, the same patterns, no matter how hard I try?

It's not because you're broken. It's because you're running programs you didn't even choose.

🧠 Where Your Subconscious Beliefs Come From

And this is what I want to talk about - your subconscious beliefs. Where do they come from? They come from your past, your childhood. From the time you were little, you absorbed the beliefs and patterns of your parents, your caregivers, your teachers β€” even the energy of the environment around you.

Those early downloads didn't just disappear… they became your subconscious programming. This can be limiting you in your current life - it could be limiting beliefs around your self worth, around money, limiting beliefs about doing it right and being perfect.

Think of your subconscious as a giant storage system β€” it runs about 95% of your daily thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Not only this but it runs your entire biological system without you even knowing. And here's the kicker: it doesn't care if the program helps you or hurts you. It just runs the code you were given.

"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."
β€” Carl Jung

But here's the truth: you don't have to be stuck with those negative programs. They can be rewritten. Your subconscious mind can be hacked and your mindset can be reset. And we are going to delve into this.

βš–οΈ The Two Emotional States

Now the first thing you need to do if you want to change anything is become aware of it. So, let me ask you this:

πŸ‘‰ Do you spend more of your day in the negative β€” stress, worry, anxiety, anger, or frustration… or in the positive state of joy, peace, gratitude, connection and love?

Most of us live in a mix of two emotional states but one always dominates:

Positive state: joy, peace, love, gratitude, connection.
Negative state: stress, anxiety, frustration, sadness, overwhelm.

πŸ”„ When the Past Becomes Your Present

And here's what most people don't realize β€” a situation from 10, 20, even 30 years ago can still be running your state today.

Maybe it was…

Your parents arguing when you were little β€” maybe they were arguing about money β€” and in that moment you thought "money causes problems." You felt scared, and powerless.Maybe you were meant to meet a friend and they never showed up and then you decided "you can't trust people."A teacher telling you, "that homework was not up to the standard we expect," β€” and the shame and embarrassment hit so hard, you decided it was safer not to try than to risk failing again.Maybe a relationship breakdown β€” where you gave everything, and were left feeling unworthy and unloved, and questioning if you were ever "enough."That time when you were told as a child, "Money doesn't grow on trees" β€” and along with those words came fear, guilt, and a sense that wanting more made you greedy or selfish.

The memories you began to give meaning to turned into emotional imprints. And your subconscious stored them like programs β€” replaying the fear, the shame, the unworthiness, the guilt β€” long after the moment passed. They became your beliefs. And now, years or decades later, those old thoughts, feelings and beliefs can still rise up and run the show.

πŸ”„ Why Your Body Gets Addicted to Old Emotions

Why? Because the subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between something happening right now and something you're just remembering.

When you come across a new experience your brain goes back to the past and you think the same thoughts of what happened β€” your mind fires the same neural pathways, your body produces the same chemicals, and you literally relive that situation all over again. Your brain brings your past to the present moment.

You get the same emotions and you become that because that is what your body knows β€” because your body is addicted to the chemistry of the past.

Like someone who is addicted to alcohol, your body becomes addicted to the natural chemicals of your body and you find yourself going back into that negative or positive state just to get your fix of the hormone you are craving and addicted to.

πŸ’« The DOSE Formula

And to reset your mind to a more positive state you need to be doing more positive things like being grateful, giving hugs and helping someone, laughing, listening to music, exercise or walking and celebrating small wins. All these little things produce happy thoughts which give your body a new emotional chemistry. I call it DOSE:

Dopamine

When you've done something you're proud of and you tell everyone β€” your body releases dopamine.

Oxytocin

Ever give a hug to a loved one or you've helped someone and felt so proud of yourself β€” that emotional rush β€” that's oxytocin.

Serotonin

When you feel grateful that something has worked out. You feel satisfied and calm because your body releases serotonin.

Endorphins

You've gone for a walk in the fresh air, or you go to the gym or you've danced the night away at a party β€” your body produces endorphins.

The more you practice getting these chemicals β€” DOSE β€” the more addicted you become to them and the more you dissolve the old patterns and build new ones.

🎯 Set Your Intention

But here's the final key: you need an intention. Otherwise, your subconscious will just keep defaulting to the old programs and old beliefs β€” and we all have lots of beliefs and programs that need rewiring.

So, let's say you come across a new experience and your brain looks in its bank of memories and you start to say - "ah money is hard to make, money is bad, I'm not good enough, I have to do things perfectly." The thing is these are statements you heard when you were younger and with repetition these became limiting beliefs and are keeping you stuck because you are still replaying them in your head.

Here's why. Every thought you think creates a pathway in your brain. The more you repeat it, the stronger it gets β€” because your brain literally wraps those neural connections in something called myelin sheath. Think of it like insulation around a wire. It makes the signal run faster and stronger… until it feels automatic.

That's why it feels like you're living in the past β€” because your body literally is. Your subconscious and your nervous system are just playing the same track on repeat.

But the thing is: these pathways are not permanent. Just as the brain can strengthen an old program, it can also weaken it, unwrap it, and build a brand new one with intention. That's the power of neuroplasticity.

"The mind is everything. What you think you become."
β€” Buddha

πŸ”„ The Three Steps to Reset Your Mindset

One of the powerful things about being an adult is that you have the ability to respond to these limiting beliefs and this ability to respond is called responsibility. You have the responsibility when you become aware of your belief system and then you can start to reset the mindset.

And it starts with three simple steps:

1. Become aware of the old pattern. That old limiting belief - whether it's "I'm not worthy," "I'm not confident," "no one takes notice of me" or "money doesn't grow on trees," "people can't be trusted." Because once you become conscious only then you can do something about it.

2. Then we have the responsibility to respond differently. And this is the biggest thing. That limiting belief, that unconscious decision is what you need to change. This awareness is the doorway.

3. We interrupt the thought and the belief before it runs the show. Flip it and create a new belief with conscious intention.

And yes it is this simple because you randomly came to the conclusion the first time around that money doesn't stay because you heard your parents arguing. You decided you weren't good enough because your teacher told you to do the homework again. You decided you can't trust people because just that one time your friend didn't show up. They were conclusions we came to and we can change when we do the inner work.

🧠 Your Brain's RAS (Reticular Activating System)

Now let's move onto more about the brain β€” so in your brain you have a reticular activating system (RAS) which helps to filter the information you need. It is this reticular activating system that filters only the information you require.

This is the part of the brain that when you buy a new car all you can see is that car everywhere. And that's your brain telling you that the car is really important. So when you set the intention your brain finds a way to get to the solution and as a result the opportunities start coming your way.

"Our intention creates our reality."
β€” Wayne Dyer

Because every time you repeat, feel, and visualize your intention, you're installing a new program.

πŸ“ Let's Recap What We've Covered Today…

  • From childhood, you absorbed beliefs, emotions, and patterns that became your subconscious programming β€” shaping how you think, feel, and react today.
  • Those old experiences didn't just fade away. They became emotional imprints β€” fear, shame, guilt, unworthiness β€” that your subconscious still replays like an old record.
  • Your brain and body get addicted to the chemistry of the past, pulling you back into stress, worry, or doubt β€” even when you know better.
  • Every repeated thought strengthens a neural pathway, wrapped in myelin, making the old belief automatic. That's why you keep falling into the same patterns.
  • But here's the power: those pathways are not permanent. With awareness, interruption, and intention, you can unwrap the old wiring and create a brand-new one.
  • You can change your body's chemistry by activating your DOSE chemicals β€” dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins β€” with gratitude, kindness, laughter, movement, and celebrating small wins.
  • And the final piece: set a conscious intention. Because your brain's Reticular Activating System will filter out distractions and guide you toward the opportunities that match your new belief.

✨ This is the formula for a mindset reset:
Awareness β†’ Interrupt β†’ Intention β†’ DOSE β†’ Rewire

You are not your old programs. You have the power to reset your mind, rewire your brain, and become the conscious creator of your reality.
